The quiet checks that keep a pool perfect

    A crystal-clear swimming pool at a villa

A perfect pool looks effortless. Crystal-clear water, a gentle hum from the pump house, not a leaf in sight. But that effortlessness is an illusion — behind every beautiful pool is a routine of quiet, unglamorous checks that most people never see.

Everyone understands cleaning: skimming leaves, brushing walls, emptying baskets. What keeps a pool truly perfect, though, is water chemistry — and on the Costa del Sol, where heat and heavy use conspire against you, it drifts faster than most owners expect. We test and balance water weekly as a minimum: pH, chlorine, alkalinity. Get it wrong in one direction and the water stings eyes and fades swimwear; get it wrong in the other and you're quietly growing algae and corroding your equipment.

The equipment itself needs love too. Pumps should be listened to — a change in sound is often the first warning of a failing bearing. Filters need backwashing on schedule, not when someone remembers. Skimmer weirs stick, seals perish in the sun, and salt cells scale up slowly until one day the chlorine simply stops being made. None of these failures announce themselves loudly. They whisper first, and catching the whisper is the whole job.

Water level is another small thing with big consequences. Too low and the pump can run dry and burn out — an expensive lesson. Too high and the skimmers stop skimming. In summer, with evaporation and enthusiastic cannonballs, the level can drop surprisingly fast.

This is why every SolidMaint pool visit ends with photos and a check log in your Property Vault. You see what we saw, what we measured, and what we did — so “the pool is fine” is never something you have to take on faith.

Small checks, done quietly and consistently, are what stop small problems becoming big ones. That's the whole secret, really.
